You could create plugins that could integrate with anything else, even integrate with competitors to WordPress.
People tend to use more than one platform. Making your platform work with other platforms actually makes your platform more desirable. It attracts users.
Platforms that become silos have an Achilles' heel. They depend on loyalists that won't leave, and if they leave, there is no one left. That's how platforms fall.
