I had some great conversations at #
FediForum, and one thing that came up is the need for more organizations to help facilitate the growth of the Fediverse in a variety of ways.
@
Evan Prodromou talked about possibly creating a Fediverse Advocacy Organization and the @
Fediverse Developer Network discussed that they may want to formally create a legal entity for their organization (such as an association). We just recently formed the
Hubzilla Association as a support organization for the Hubzilla fediverse software. I am also working towards incorporating
Federated Works as a public benefit corporation. And many many other organizations attended FediForum.
A lot of really neat stuff going on.
Right now we have a unique opportunity here. We have the opportunity to show that decentralized administration of the commons is possible. Instead of creating one monolith organization to rule them all, we create specialized organizations that collaborate with each other. And we, preferably, create redundant organizations that work together and share responsibilities.
That is actually an approach we are taking with Hubzilla. We have both the Hubzilla Association and Federated Works advocating for Hubzilla and the advanced technologies it offers, such as nomadic identity, federated single sign on, privacy & access control, etc. Then we also have various server operators and other organizations that contribute time and resources in various ways.
We will work together so we don't step on each other's toes, but at the same time, each organization has the ability to implement their own vision and provide unique resources.
We have an opportunity to change the way the commons are managed. Let's build something great together.
