Using fake stories to further an agenda seems to be the trend these days. I have to wonder if they ever heard of the fairy tale called "A Boy Who Cried Wolf."
In the story, the boy, the main character, kept crying out to warn that a wolf was about to attack the village, but in reality, there was no wolf.
The story does not say why the boy was lying about there being a wolf. Maybe it was for attention. Maybe it was so people would be aware of the wolf danger hoping they would be prepared for a real attack. Maybe he hoped they would go out and hunt down all of the wolves. We don't know his motives. But we know he lied about the danger.
At first, the villagers would come running and try to defend the village from attack, but after awhile, the villagers realized he was making it up and started to ignore him.
But, one day, a wolf really was attacking the village. He ran for help, but no one would come to help because they thought he was lying. As a result, people died, including children.
Every time people lie about a real danger, they train people to ignore the warnings. And when people start ignoring the warnings, people get hurt or killed.
