Down here in Houston, we are having our first hard freeze on Monday & Tuesday. And there are forecasts of freezing rain in the northern suburbs and anything northward. And, I get to drive on that.
Luckily I learned to drive up north on snow and ice, so I am pretty proficient. Local drivers, not so much. They can drive 70 mph (113 km/h) on oil & water, but can't drive on snow & ice. But that is to be expected in a city where it only snows and sticks to the ground once every 10 years or so. We don't even have salt to put on the roads. They just dump sand on the bridges.
But, I live in Houston, on the gulf coast. We don't have our own weather here. Our weather blows in from elsewhere.
We have northers (a violent cold north wind blowing, mainly in winter, over Texas and the Gulf of Mexico) or we have tropical storms from the Gulf of Mexico. Our weather literally depends on which way the wind is blowing.
Now I just need to make sure our pipes don't freeze.
